The long term goal of this project is a generic system model of buildings including control, work places, and users, the derivation of project specific models for particular applications, and the transformation of these models into object-oriented or multi-agent-based simulators as part of a virtual laboratory for the analysis of the dynamic properties of buildings. Of special interest is the dynamic behavior of individual users in buildings, especially the reaction to building automation systems and the interaction of users with such systems and building components for the optimization of user comfort and satisfaction and energy consumption.
Another aspect is the efficient creation of problem specific simulators for new experiments that can not be supported by off-the-shelf simulation environments. For this purpose a software process based on model-based code generation is applied that has been developed for the creation of reactive embedded systems, for example building control systems, as a result of the Sonderforschungsbereich SFB501.
The project is conducted in cooperation with architects and urban planners at the TU Vienna, the TU Eindhoven, the CMU Pittsburgh, and the University of Lund. The Intelligent Workplace of the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics of the CMU is used as a testbed.
